• My new Southwest status and the amazing status match opportunity!

I think the best way to describe my airline loyalty over the past year has been “anything but loyal.” If you simply read back through my blog posts on this website, you probably have no clue where I stand. Jumping out the gates into business travel I was all over Delta. And to be honest, none of that went away. Flying out of Baton Rouge, I was deciding where to connect, rather than if I had to connect. But damn. Hartsfield-Jackson is actually fun to transit through, and overall the service and attitude overall at Delta just far exceed the rest. But then I was planning my move to the…

What should I do with my 90,000 Iberia Avios?

As an avid miles and points enthusiast I am constantly stalking FlyerTalk forums and the many wonderful points blogs out there. And while sometimes it may seem obsessive, today I was able to stumble across something awesome. Earlier today, Lucky over at One Mile at a Time reported on the amazing Iberia promotion going on. The offer is pretty straightforward: Book a flight before June 24th and receive 9,000 Avios The flight must be on Iberia, Iberia Express, or Air Nostrum You must be an Iberia Plus member, which you can easily join here Tickets must be booked on iberia.com There is a limit of 10 tickets that can be booked…

Let’s drink: free drinks on American Main Cabin Extra are here!

If you are at all involved in the world of miles and points, and more importantly, if you have any interest in flying American Airlines you’ve probably heard about their recent in-flight upgrades. Specifically, American announced late last year that they would be adding complimentary beer, wine, and spirits to their Main Cabin Extra (MCE) seats.  While the process of rolling this out has been confusingly drawn out, it was recently confirmed that on July 5, 2018 this new feature would be available. And here we are, July 5 — should I fly today just to make sure they followed through? While that won’t happen, I did have to book some travel on…

The terms to American’s status match are…stupid

Over the coming weeks I will talk a lot about my upcoming move. In short, I have relocated with my work to the Washington DC area, a long time dream of mine, and what that means here is that a lot of my travel changes. I will still be traveling with the same frequency, but obviously out of a different airport. So the biggest thing I have to decide is where I want to keep, or shift, my loyalty. I alluded to this point earlier with my thought that maybe I’d transfer my loyalty from Delta to United.  That was with the thought that I’d be flying from Washington Dulles,…

How do you redeem points on a partner airline?

One of the coolest things, in my opinion, about the airline industry are the airline alliances and their other partners. In the US we have the ‘big 3’ airlines covering all major alliances: Oneworld (US member – American) SkyTeam (US member – Delta) Star Alliance (US member – United) On top of that are the many airline partnerships that individual airlines have with each other. For instance, Alaska has solidified itself as one of the premier airline currencies simply because of its award redemption opportunities with partner airlines — but Alaska is not part of one of the major airline alliances. While I would definitely say that airline partnerships are…

  • Is Virgin Atlantic Upper Class worth 85,000 SkyMiles

I recently wrote about planning a trip to Europe, in which I outlined a sort of trick I’ve found in booking award tickets. While I mentioned in that article that I was focused on using my Chase Ultimate Rewards points, I have also considered using Delta miles for one leg as I have quite a bit of SkyMiles built up from business travel. I want to try and fly Business Class (crazy enough, I haven’t yet), but I didn’t really expect there to be any reasonable award redemptions out there. After some further research, I learned that you could redeem as little as 70,000 SkyMiles from the east coast to Europe…
