My first impressions abroad…

I have finally traveled abroad!

I am currently writing this from Paris, and while this isn’t my first time in Europe (or abroad as the title may allude) this is my first time in Paris. And most importantly, this is my first time flying over an ocean while writing this blog. Very exciting to say the least!

I have a lot planned in the future for the blog, and a lot will probably be after the trip, but I wanted to share some initial first impressions.

First, what I’ve flown…

Anyone who’s read any of my blogs knows that I’m biased towards Delta, and also have a ton of miles racked up with them. So naturally, my first international business class experience would be aboard Delta One. And I’ll just say it now, they didn’t disappoint!

I flew JFK-ZRH aboard a Delta A330-200, and also got to experience the JFK Delta SkyClub. My final destination was to Paris to meet my family, so I spent one night in Zurich then flew a Swiss A320 from ZRH-CDG. Not an international business class, but something I found pretty interesting.

So, as I mentioned above, I don’t want to get into too much detail here, but do want to share some quick thoughts.

1. Delta One is just as good as what I’ve come to expect on regional flights

No, I don’t think Delta One will be my most luxurious business class experience ever, but damn did I enjoy it. Not only was it my Delta, but it was also just a really good experience. From the crew, to the food, to the Delta One seats, I had a great first international biz’ experience.

2. Intra-Europe flights far exceed US domestic flights

I will admit that I’m saying this after one flight, and maybe it was my luck that is was Swiss, but I do feel like everything Swiss did on their regional flight was much more polished than what we’ve come to expect on US domestic flights. From the airport staff (ZRH seems to be the cream of the crop), airplane crew, and the onboard product, I felt a world (or maybe an ocean) of difference.

3. I’m not sure if I can fly in anything but business class overseas

While I’ve flied a ton over the past two years, I’ve yet to fly in business class. And all I can say is that I’m not sure I can go back any further in an airplane. From the food to the service, to the lie-flat seats — Delta One was awesome! If only my bank account would support it!

4. ZRH airport far exceeded Charles De-Gaulle

I first arrived to Zurich and it was a Friday morning, so it was pretty peaceful. But flying out on Saturday morning it was pretty packed and I still felt like it was clean, the people were pleasant, and all lines, security, etc. moved extremely smooth. I wish I got more pictures of the boarding process, but it was all automated, through gates, and people seemed to be less stressed about getting onto the plane first!

For obvious reasons, the CDG airport was cramped, and a bit dirty — at least Terminal 1 where I came in. At least I got to see a lot of beautiful birds!

Bottom Line

The experience in Europe after just one day has been awesome! I haven’t had anything terrible happen yet (knock on wood) so I’m hoping we stick to that trend. Stay tuned as I plan to put a lot out on this trip!
