I logged on to my United app to check the status of an upcoming flight and was surprised to find the following targeted promotion sitting in my account.
The rules of the promotion seem to be pretty straightforward:
Book and take a trip on United or United Express® before March 11, 2018, spending at least $275 per trip.
This definitely looks like a targeted promotion as the “1” looks like it can be interchanged for different members, and the 6,900 miles does not seem like a benchmark number. This is pretty exciting for me as I’ve never truly been targeted for any promotion. This may be the norm, but as a relatively new flier with United I am new to it.
Some things of note:
- You must register with the given code on the promotion (you are not automatically registered)
- You must book your trip after you register, and you will only receive the bonus once you complete the trip.
- The trip must be at least $275 in value
I would take a look at your United account and check to see if you’ve qualified for the “Mile Play” promotion.
This is not a crazy good benefit, but if you are planning on traveling with United soon you might as well receive some extra miles. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some larger bonuses as well.
I only found out about this promotion as I was checking the app to ensure that a work trip showed up in my account after booking. Unfortunately, since I hadn’t yet registered for the promotion I wouldn’t get the bonus — even though it is travel within the given time period. I am however going to go through the process of cancelling and re-booking since I am still in the 24 hr time period. Oh the things I’d do for 6,900 miles!
